Intl. community expected to support Palestinian govt.: Majlis speaker
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Third International Conference on Al-Qods and Support for the Rights of the Palestinian Nation, he said that the political rights of Palestinians take shape in the context of democratic elections held in Palestine.
Haddad-Adel stressed that the international community is expected to back the democratically elected government of Palestine.
He stressed the importance of reinforcing unity and convergence among the Palestinian people under the current sensitive circumstances.
"Any solution to the Palestinian issue which is not based on justice will be doomed to fail," he said. Pointing to previous meetings held in Madrid and Oslo to find ways to settle the Palestinian problem, the speaker added, "The Islamic Republic of Iran has always stressed the need for the restoration of the Palestinians' rights and the establishment of justice there. History has proved the righteousness of Iran's view."
He noted that Islamic states have adopted a better stance on Palestine and Israel in comparison with previous months.
Haddad-Adel noted that all Muslim governments should rush to help the Palestinian people in their hard days now that the U.S. and Europe proved they have no respect for the vote of the Palestinian nation.
"By halting its aid for Palestine after Hamas’ victory in (the January election), the U.S. has proved that it does not respect the Palestinians' vote," he said.
Haddad-Adel said he believed that the U.S., Israel and Europe were trying to punish the Palestinian people for voting in favor of Hamas by imposing economic sanctions against the Hamas-led Palestinian government.
"Muslim states should not let such a thing happen," he stressed.
"The Islamic world is still insisting on liberation of the occupied land," said the speaker.
The international gathering is participated by 587 foreign politicians and scholars from 68 countries including 26 parliament speakers and vice-speakers, Haddad-Adel said.
On the upcoming Iran-U.S. talks on Iraq, he said that Iran does not want to connect the Iraq issue to its national nuclear program.
He said that the Iran-U.S. talks have nothing to do with the Iranian nuclear program.
The Majlis speaker noted that Iran would go ahead with new rounds of negotiations with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
"So far, Western states were against Iran’s gaining access to nuclear know-how, but now the situation has changed and Iran has acquired the know-how and therefore the agenda of any future negotiation in this respect has changed," Haddad-Adel said.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Haddad-Adel said that Iran is opposed to anti-Semitism and the massacre of Jews whether something called Holocaust has taken place or not.
"We respect followers of all religions as the president has also mentioned in his remarks," he said.
Haddad-Adel said that Iran has a long history of co-existence with Jews and has proven that it has no conflict with them.
"Iranian Jews enjoy equal rights with others," said the speaker.
Haddad-Adel said, "While any insult against the Holy Prophet of Islam is not condemned under the pretext of freedom of speech, it is surprising that any researcher who casts doubt on the Holocaust is convicted and sent into prison.
"If the Holocaust has happened, why shouldn’t those who are responsible for it pay the price? Why should the Palestinian Arabs and Muslims pay the price?”
Meanwhile, in a meeting with Vice-Speaker of the Togo parliament on Sunday Haddad-Adel said that the presence of envoys from African states at the Qods conference will give an impetus to endeavors to restore the rights of the Palestinian nation.
He noted that Iran is a powerful country and is seriously determined to cooperate with all states, especially African countries, based on religion and ethics.
The Togolese official, for his part, said that African states, who have experienced the bitter taste of injustice, well understand the concept of freedom and due to the same reason support a country like Palestine, which is suffering injustice.
He went on to say that the presence of Togo in the meeting testifies the fact that his country is beside the Palestinian people until they attain their final victory.
The Togolese official called for the expansion of ties between his country and Iran, especially in the parliamentary domain, adding that such cooperation would be effective in the campaign against global hegemony.
